10 Most Unexpected WWE Burials

6. CM Punk

Things were going pretty well for CM Punk in the fall of 2009. He had just won the WWE Championship from Jeff Hardy, and unlike the previous year his WrestleMania Money in the Bank win was accompanied by some much-needed development to his previously vanilla character.

After turning heel, he began using his straight-edge lifestyle as a stick with which to beat both his opponents and the audience. In doing so, he at last began to show some of that attitude you associated with his run in Ring of Honor, signalling - or so it seemed - that he had finally shaken off those WWE shackles.

Someone in the back, however, didn't share our enthusiasm. Punk became embroiled in a feud with Undertaker after his title win at SummerSlam, and it took the 'Deadman' just 10 minutes to put him away inside his playground at October's Hell in a Cell.

Rumours at the time suggested that this was a punishment of sorts for Punk's cocky attitude backstage, and by cocky attitude they were of course referring to his preference for wearing hoodies and jeans over a three-piece suit. It turns out there's a rather rigid dress code in the WWE locker room.
