10 Most Unlikely First WWE World Championship Defenses
1. Drew McIntyre Vs. Big Show (WWE Championship) - 26/03/20
It's a surreal experience looking back at the first WrestleMania of the pandemic days. The typical fanfare and spectacle was toned *way* down as the increasingly dangerous COVID-19 virus forced the WWE to host the Grandaddy of the All from the WWE Performance Centre, to a crowd of 0.
Despite the bizarreness of the event, there were a fair share of enjoyable highlights: the triple threat ladder match for the Tag Team Titles, Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins, the cinematic matches, the culmination of the Otis/Mandy Rose storyline, and one highlight particularly appreciated by those in Blighty: the crowning of the first-ever British WWE World Champion in Drew McIntyre.
This moment of elation was immediately stunted the next night on RAW, when it was announced that there was a dark match *after* the main event as the Big Show marched to the ring to challenge the new WWE Champion right there and then.
The first WrestleMania dark match since 2011, McIntyre toppled his impromptu challenger but not before a few heart-in-mouth moments where we thought "they're not putting Show over... are they?"
