10 Movies Starring Wrestlers In 2016

5. The Resurrection Of Gavin Stone

Faith-based films seem to be all the rage these days, so it's no wonder that WWE have tried to capitalise on that by buying the rights to The Resurrection of Gavin Stone (or TROGS, if you prefer). The film, which stars Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D's Brett Dalton in the titular role, is about a former child star and washed-up actor who pretends to be a Christian in order to play Jesus in a church production and fulfil his community service. WWE are teaming up with Harvest Bible Chapel and Vertical Church Films on the project, which is a comedy/family/romance film according to IMDb. Few other details are available, but there is one cast member that sticks out like a sore thumb - Shawn Michaels. Yes, the born-again Heartbreak Kid will be making his motion picture debut in the film, playing the role of 'Doug'. Who is Doug? I have absolutely no idea, but I am curious to see how Mr. WrestleMania does and what his performance is like. As one of the best sellers in the history of the business and a naturally charismatic man, you'd expect Michaels to be able to get across emotion well enough. But good as he is in the squared circle, it doesn't necessarily mean that Michaels is going to be a good actor. You need only look at one Mr. Terry Bolea for evidence that 'wrestling acting' is not as the same as 'acting acting'. Here's hoping that the 'Sexy Boy' doesn't turn in something akin to Santa with Muscles. Given the high-profile lead and spiritual story, this one could be better than your average WWE studio flick. Or not. We'll see...
