The greatest match in SmackDown history, let alone 2002, is and forever will be the No Disqualification match between Edge and Eddie Guerrero on the September 26 episode.

After weeks of escalating tensions between the future Hall of Famers, they battled in a proverbial war to settle the score. What could have been just another hardcore match with weapons use galore was, instead, a brilliantly mapped-out match that built to a proper and fitting finish.

From sunset flip powerbombs off the top of the ladder by Guerrero to back body drops from Edge to his opponent ON TOP OF THE LADDER, the match systematically built on every spot until the wrestlers found themselves atop that same ladder, with nowhere else to go but down.

From there, the future Rated-R Superstar delivered an impaler DDT to Guerrero in an awe-inspiring moment. That death-defying maneuver earned Edge the well-deserved win.

For Guerrero, the loss was a defeat in name alone. The standing ovation he was greeted with as he walked out of the arena that night ignited a respect and admiration for Latino Heat that would eventually culminate in his main event push and WWE Championship victory in February 2004.
