The SmackDown Six waged war over the newly-created WWE Tag Team Championships throughout the fall of 2002, providing fans with action the likes of which had not been seen since The Rock & Roll Express battled The Midnight Express in the greatest tag team rivalry ever back in the 1980s.

After an epic encounter at No Mercy in October, which saw Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit defeat Edge and Rey Mysterio to become the first pair of titleholders, the championships were up for grabs on the November 7 SmackDown broadcast.

A Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match, it would ensure that the most deserving team left with the gold.

After 33 minutes of action (including commercials), Benoit launched himself off the top rope with his diving headbutt, missing his target and nailing his partner. Edge responded, blasting Angle with the spear to win the third fall and the titles.

The chemistry between the four competitors was incredible, each bringing something different to the table. The babyfaces went over to pay off that portion of the rivalry while leaving the black cloud of Los Guerreros hanging over the proceedings.

Eventually, the three tag teams would meet at Survivor Series in a Triple Threat title match, but for the time being, the November 7 episode of SmackDown was Edge and Mysterio's night to shine.
