10 New Directions For WWE After SummerSlam 2025
3. CM Punk Ultimately Ending Seth Rollins
WWE are already calling that Seth Rollins Money In The Bank cash in "the ruse of the century". On Saturday night, Seth seemingly only came out with Paul Heyman and his briefcase to warn CM Punk not to get too comfortable with the World Heavyweight Title. Then, Rollins tossed away his crutches and revealed that he isn't actually injured after all.
Mere moments later, Seth had traded the case for the belt and is World Champ once again.
Punk laughed at Drew McIntyre when that happened to him with Damian Priest at WrestleMania 40, but he wasn’t laughing here. His facial expressions were totally on the mark as Seth's music dropped. It was like Punk realised that one can never get too comfortable on the top in WWE, but his face also screamed that he thought things might be different after so many years away.
It was a crushing realisation.
Ultimate revenge will come for Punk during ‘Mania 42 season in 2026, surely. Or, maybe it'll come beforehand. It's either a 'Mania scrap or Rollins and Punk go Hell In A Cell at some point. That’d work too, and Punk has already shown how well his storytelling skills are matched to the iconic cage gimmick. His blood feud with Seth is full of enough hatred to merit HIAC.
Hands up: Your writer was fooled by WWE's injury plan at Saturday Night's Main Event. He thought disaster had struck for Rollins again, and he really likes the fact that he's been tricked. Wrestling is bloody great, isn't it? Even people who write about this stuff for a living should enjoy being wrong sometimes. It's some laugh!
