10 Next-Level Tweaks That Took Wrestlers From Lame To Cool As F***

6. CM Punk Distances Himself From The New Nexus

In the months before changing the business forever with his iconic pipe bomb, CM Punk didn't exactly feel like 'The Best in the World'.

After taking charge of the latest "New" version of the dying Nexus faction, the Punker and his team were all chucked out of the Royal Rumble by John Cena and the 'Chick Magnet' was bested by Randy Orton at both WrestleMania XXVII and Extreme Rules.

Put simply, this experiment wasn't working out for anyone.

And then something wonderful happened on June 27, 2011: WWE handed 'The Voice of the Voiceless' a live microphone and let him do what he did best.

On top of allowing Punk the freedom to become an anti-establishment main event anti-hero, though, WWE also wisely began slowly distancing the hottest performer in the company from a group they'd evidently lost all interest in pushing.

The "Punk against the world" angle definitely wouldn't have connected anywhere near as well had he still been attached to this bunch of loser heels.

So, the smart call was made to keep the faction away from the rebel as things heated up between himself, Cena, and Vince McMahon.

He'd then perform one final, all-important tweak before fully evolving into 'The Best in the World', finally dropping the black-and-yellow armband for good as he wandered into Chicago on the night of Money in the Bank.
