10 Non-Title Matches That Could Happen At WWE WrestleMania 35
5. AJ Styles Vs. Randy Orton
A dream match for over a decade, these two generation-defining wrestlers have largely avoided each other since AJ’s arrival in WWE in 2016, with only a solitary singles match in the record books from SmackDown Live in March 2017.
It has always been a case of when, not if, their paths would cross, and there have been whispers for some time that it will finally go down in New Jersey. Styles appears to have been written out of the WWE Championship picture following a disappointing showing at The Elimination Chamber, where he was pinned by ‘The Viper’.
Another vicious RKO to end a brilliant gauntlet match on SmackDown five days prior to the pay-per-view has put the pieces in place for Orton and Styles to finally feud. In many ways, it is good that this rivalry has been so long in coming as recent months have allowed Orton to return to his slimy and sadistic best, after several years in autopilot.
While they are each individually among the smoothest in-ring operators in WWE history, Orton and Styles work at vastly different paces so it will be intriguing to see if they can get the best out of each other should they indeed meet on ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’.
