10 Observations From Attending EVOLVE 67 Live
1. The Fix Is In
After the match, the victorious heel squadron wasn't satisfied. They still had a question that needed to be answered.
Earlier, the group had made an offer to Joey Styles, who was making his first indy appearance since being fired by WWE. They wanted him to serve as mouthpiece for their anti-WWE stable, and they needed to know where he stood. Styles rejected the offer in no uncertain terms, but said that instead, he was going to play matchmaker.
The September 11 EVOLVE show in Queens - which will be Johnny Gargano's last show before joining WWE full-time - was advertised to have a main event of Gargano versus Cody Rhodes, but Styles was changing it. Instead, Gargano and Rhodes would team up in order to face Drew Galloway and Ethan Carter III.
Galloway and Carter were elated to get the opportunity to destroy their enemies, while Rhodes - who had run-in after the main event - was glad to get his hands on Galloway. Gargano wasn't there, as he was at Barclays Center for NXT TakeOver.
The match will likely be an exciting contest, but given that Gargano's swan song is now a bout against hated rivals rather than spirited competition with another big name, Ethan Page has the perfect opportunity to finally bury the knife in his old enemy's back. Page has been trying to win Gargano's respect for a year, but despite his seemingly-genuine nature, his quest for redemption always seemed a little too tidy to be true. At EVOLVE 69, the other shoe drops.
