Fans from the Attitude Era have seen a storyline which exploits an athlete's real life struggles with addiction all before, with Hawk of LOD fame. The legendary tag team icon was notoriously suffering from alcoholism towards the end of the millennium, so of course it played out on screen, climaxing with Hawk climbing the Titantron after being expelled from the LOD and slipping off in the process.

Even in the PG era, we've witnessed CM Punk ridicule Jeff Hardy for his propensity towards vice, and Punk himself has been called out for his family's struggles with narcotics by Chris Jericho. With that in mind, it's almost surprising WWE haven't gone in this direction again, with or without someone such as Russo's influence.

Who the New York native would choose to be the target for this narrative is anyone's guess. Jeff Hardy at the forefront once again would be the obvious choice, but with more than one DUI offence hanging over him, Jimmy Uso could potentially be singled out.

All it would take is a dastardly heel to bring up the sins of the flawed babyface and the angle would be in full swing. Addiction is a real life tragedy many a pro-wrestler has struggled with over the years, so a triumph defeat of the condition and tormentor could be an inspiration... or Russo will just have them slip off the 'tron again. Oh Attitude Era.
