Last year’s men’s winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase had seemingly been pegged for big things, winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on his first night on the main roster.

So when Baron Corbin won the MITB match last year, it seemed like we were destined to have the Lone Wolf as a world champion sometime in the following months. After all, he defeated an all-star lineup of AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Shinsuke Nakamura to claim the briefcase.

But then, less than two months later, Corbin attempted to cash in on a wounded Jinder Mahal, only for John Cena (whom Baron had attacked moments earlier) to interfere, causing a distraction that allowed Mahal to roll him up. And just like that, Corbin became the second man to lose a cash-in match.

It was a pretty quick turnaround for Corbin, going from being destined for bigger things to losing his briefcase and getting shunted down the card. One year later, he’s now the “constable” on Raw, serving as a mouthpiece for Stephanie McMahon and foil for GM Kurt Angle.
