10 Radical Ideas To Save Dolph Ziggler
1. Give Him A G*ddamn WrestleMania Singles Match
It is fundamentally ridiculous that a man who’s won the World Heavyweight Championship twice, who’s won the Money In The Bank ladder match, who’s a four-time Intercontinental Champion, has never once - in eight years - had a singles match at WrestleMania.
It’s actually a little sadder than that. ‘Dolph Ziggler’ has never missed a WrestleMania since Nemeth returned to the main roster in September 2008, but has never even been part of a proper storyline heading into a match at the biggest show of the year. Eight years in a row, the closest he’s come is when he and Big E teamed to try and win the tag titles from Team Hell No in 2013 - and Ziggler wasn’t even tagging with Big E prior to WrestleMania 29.
Aside from that, he’s been a lumberjack, lost three multi-man ladder matches, failed to win the inaugural Andre the Giant Battle Royal and lost a six-person intergender tag match. At WrestleMania XXVIII, Ziggler was on the winning team in a twelve-man match, the closest he’s ever come to a personal victory of any kind at WrestleMania.
Forget CM Punk and his frustration at never headlining the event: Ziggler must be seething. Regardless of his spot this year, he’s been a big enough star on at least four other occasions to mandate a place in a straightforward singles bout on the most important card of the year, and each time he’s been sidelined.
If he isn’t given something approaching a proper WrestleMania singles match next year, then all hope is officially lost. At that point, Nemeth had better hope that he’s got a future in acting or comedy… or that Ralph Ziegler will be a welcome sight in the Impact Zone.
