10 Radical Ideas To Save Dolph Ziggler
8. Let His Mouth Off The Chain
Ziggler’s well known for a lot of things, but a quality promo isn’t one of them. That’s obviously not to say the man can’t talk, but he never really gets the chance to cut loose on RAW or Smackdown.
The fact is, he’s got the gift of the gab. If you’ve ever heard him interviewed, you know that already: he’s funny, articulate, self-deprecating and brutally honest, and all off the cuff in a standard live interview scenario.
I’ve said it before: but Nick Nemeth is an Olympic level talker, yet Dolph Ziggler is only a national level promo, maybe not even that. There’s an odd disconnect between what he’s capable of in real life, and what he’s allowed to do in character on WWE programming.
In WWE.com or Network exclusives, or on the WWE app, or on Main Event or whatever it is, you’ll often find Ziggler cutting these incredible fiery babyface promos on the app. Regardless of where it is, it's somewhere that the casual fans aren't getting to hear or see it.
The guy’s been practicing stand-up and improv for years now, and he’s good to great on the mic - he just needs some focus, and to slow down a little. Remember when world class promos got people over?
Well, give him an angle on RAW - any angle, really - where he actually gets some mic time, and tell him it's a Hail Mary on his character. Under pressure, Ziggler will deliver.
