10 Reasons CM Punk Might Actually Succeed In UFC
2. Existing Ground Game

Although he doesn't have a belt, CM Punk does have a solid ground game. There's video of him with Rener Gracie demonstrating BJJ moves that can easily be found on Youtube, and he seems to be pretty fluid. He busy pro wrestling schedule kept him from training often enough to be awarded a belt, but if you listen to guys like Cole Miller, a long-time UFC fighter who has trained with Punk, he's going to surprise a few guys.
And that's key. As important as striking is, a ground game is equally, if not more so, important in MMA. Fighting on the feet comes natural to most people who have grown up watching sports like boxing or traditional mixed martial arts. Fighting on the ground is foreign to many, so the fact that Punk already excels there may give him the edge over other rookie fighters.
