Goldberg's first WWE run from 2003-2004 was not the best. It ended on a sour note too when Bill and Brock Lesnar were booed out of the building by fans because they knew both were leaving the company. This was a sad end to a run that hadn't come close to the one Goldberg enjoyed in WCW, and it seemed he'd be forgotten.

Fast-forward to Bill's surprised reaction during those first comeback promos on Raw in 2016 and you'll see a man humbled by audience excitement. Goldberg revealed on his WWE 24 documentary that he was scared people might not remember him. They did, and fans were willing to welcome Goldberg (a man who had flopped first time, don't forget) back.

A new generation of wrestling fans were eager to experience Goldberg's star power and wanted to see what he could do in the modern day. That was never a given, and it demonstrates just how over he was the first time around even when creative were booking lame segments or putting him in lengthy matches that exposed his work.
