For $49.99, you can guarantee yourself two cards of either Epic or Legendary status, which are going to be better than damn near any cards your opponents will have right off the jump. Once you start training those cards, they'll get even better, and you can focus on building the rest of your team around them. Again, it's a quick fix, but it really depends on your "moral compass", and just how you feel about spending real money on a game like this.
