10 Reasons To Stick With NJPW After Wrestle Kingdom 12

1. Witness History In The Making

Kazuchika Okada
NJPW

As controversial as Kazuchika Okada's Wrestle Kingdom 12 victory was, his IWGP Heavyweight Championship run has been a complete success across the boards, and it's easy to understand why NJPW chose to keep him at the top.

Business is through the roof. 'The Rainmaker' has sold out every major title defence, and New Japan flirted with an all-time great financial year in 2017. Tetsuya Naito and Kenny Omega contributed towards this too, but Okada is the company ace, and the man leading the charge throughout NJPW's rise.

Now 565 days into his fourth reign, the 30-year-old has already spent more time as champion than anyone else in company history, having recently surpassed Hiroshi Tanahashi. Now, he's out to break another of the former ace's long-held records. The 'High Flying Star' scored 11 successful defences during his 2011-12 reign, and 'The Rainmaker' is just three away from surpassing it.

There's a real chance Okada could become the most decorated IWGP Heavyweight Champion of all time this year, and if he does, that's something you're definitely going to want to witness. An unqualified success on every conceivable level, from business to match quality, his run is comparable Kenta Kobashi's transcendent GHC Heavyweight Championship reign from 2003-2005, and should see him become a modern day puroresu legend.
