In October 2004, a young Mike Mizanin was a contestant on the fourth season of Tough Enough. He made it to the final, and even got to wrestle on the Armageddon PPV against the eventual winner Daniel Puder. However, even though MIz lost out, he piqued WWE's interest enough that they eventually offered him a developmental contract.

He was sent to Deep South Wrestling to train under Bill DeMott (a highly controversial man with a reputation for being tough as nails and maybe even overly aggressive towards his trainees). He debuted on WWE's main roster as an active competitor in September 2006, and has been an almost constant presence on television for the entire decade since.

In today's world, where flavours of the month come and go like the breeze and the fickle public is always demanding the next exciting thing, the staying power of The Miz is something to be admired. He's been a mainstay on WWE TV for almost as long as the likes of John Cena and Randy Orton, and has outlasted nearly all of his contemporaries.

His career has had its ups and downs, like everyone, but he has an uncanny ability to reinvent his character slightly every few years.

The stories of Miz' hard early days have circulated for years, as well. Coming in from the reality show environment of Tough Enough, as well as a previous stint on MTV's Real World, Miz was hazed and mistreated badly by older superstars early on. However, he stuck to it, worked hard and proved himself to the locker room and is now respected in the locker room.
