1. No Classic Matches
There's little doubt as to the best match on the WrestleMania 31 card. The main event between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar was an incredibly hard-hitting affair, perhaps the most brutal WWE match since the beginning of the PG-era. It will be forever remembered for Lesnar's early domination, Reigns heroic comeback, bucketloads of blood, and Rollins' shock cash-in. It was undoubtedly a brilliant WrestleMania moment, but it was not a generation-defining match in the mould of Michaels/Undertaker or Macho Man/Steamboat. None of the matches on this show were true classics, rendering the claim that this was the best 'Mania ever absolutely outrageous. The cards of the two WrestleManias commonly considered the best ever, 'Mania 17 and 19, have one clear advantage over this year's show: great match after great match. 2001's card has a technical classic in the form of Angle vs Benoit, a thrilling TLC tag bout, and the historic Austin vs Rock main event - in which Stone Cold brought the Attitude Era to an end with one of the most shocking heel turns ever. 'Mania 19 not only has their long-awaited rematch (won by Rocky), but also the hero vs superfan encounter of HBK and Jericho, and the brutal passing of the torch from Kurt Angle to Brock Lesnar. While WrestleMania 31 was a thoroughly entertaining show - and certainly surpassed the fans' generally pessimistic expectations - it runs the risk of being wildly overrated. It was a below-average card improved by a host of good performances, and represents a useful starting point for the next year's worth of storylines, but certainly doesn't rank up there with the best 'Manias ever. Not even close.
