10 Reasons WWE Might Bring Back The World Heavyweight Championship

3. The Needs Of The Upper Mid Carder / Lower Main Event Talent

Sheamus, Big Show, Cesaro, Bray Wyatt, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton are just some of the talent who have been hurt by the lack of a secondary World Title in 2014. They represent the upper mid carder and lower main event roles, that traditionally benefited by having the World Title spot as a prop. Sheamus for example has been a ship adrift in 2014, whereas in 2012 he was able to function with some degree of relevancy in World Title feuds with The Big Show. The Irishman is currently marooned with the US Title, which is doing absolutely nothing for his character. The little bit of extra prestige in the WHC in contrast, could help illuminate the big man's character. He's the perfect example of someone who should be at the championship level, but doesn't currently have the necessary belt available to compete for. You could even argue that someone like CM Punk is no longer with the WWE because of the lack of a World championship to go for. If WWE hadn't unified the titles in December 2013, the company could have offered Punk a World Heavyweight Title match against Triple H at WrestleMania 30. It wouldn't have been the WWE Title show closer, but the added perception would've maybe convinced Punk to stay. Instead there was only the WWE Title to go for, which WWE already had mapped out for Batista and Randy Orton. Then you have Alberto Del Rio, who was almost certainly hurt by the absence of a secondary world belt. Del Rio had dominated the World Title in 2013, meaning that he had nothing to compete for when the belt vanished in 2014. He eventually lost his job to a slapping incident, but it was as much to do with his irrelevancy. The secondary belt would've sustained him better.
