10 Ridiculous Finishes To WWE And WCW World Title Matches

2. Nitro, January 4th, 1999 - Kevin Nash Vs Hulk Hogan For The WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Nitro, January 4th, 1999 is widely regarded as the turning point in the Monday night wars, a show that saw the WWF topple its competitor WCW in the ratings, a blow from which WCW never recovered. This match happened in the aftermath of the controversial Nash vs Goldberg match at Starrcade '98, in which Nash beat Goldberg's undefeated streak after his tag team partner Scott Hall attacked Goldberg with a stun gun. This match was booked due to the growing tensions between the two divisions of the NWO - the NWO Wolfpac lead by Kevin Nash and the Hollywood contingent lead by Hulk Hogan. The match starts promptly with Nash shoving Hogan into the corner, Hogan retaliates by poking Nash with his index finger, 'causing' him to fall to the mat. Hogan pins Nash, Nash stands up and all of the NWO come out to celebrate. Undoubtedly one of the most stupid and obnoxious finishes to a world title match ever. The finger poke of doom angered many fans and critics who genuinely wanted to see the confrontation, but instead they were just left hanging as the NWO reformed once again. There was nothing stopping this match from actually being a match, while having the same finish. If Nash and Hogan had actually wrestled with Hogan getting the win, then shook hands causing the factions to rejoin, the audience wouldn't have felt so cheated. This edition of Nitro contained another obnoxious blunder, Tony Schiavone spoiled the results of RAW and Mankind's title win, a detail that caused 600,000 viewers to turn the channel over. Many viewers never turned back to WCW.
