10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About WWE In 2015
4. They Will Drop PG
The Theory: WWE will drop the TV-PG rating and return to TV-14. The Evidence: WWE has been PG since July 2008. That's almost seven years that the company has had the TV rating. What has WWE accomplished in that time? Well, business is not exactly great at present, with the pay-per-view model dead in the water and the WWE Network struggling to find its feet. Live attendance is down, too, and creatively the company seems to be on autopilot. The problems with PG are well-documented. Fans understand why WWE is PG, but they don't like it. For the adults who watch the show, it can be an intelligence-insulting chore at times. WWE has been getting edgier in recent times, however, and has tried to push the envelope a little with the language and content used on the shows. But it's still nothing compared to what was going on during the incredibly successful Attitude Era which, for comparison, only lasted about four years but was infinitely more memorable than the PG era has been. Of course, there is absolutely no chance that the WWE will return to anything akin to the Attitude Era and nor should it. Times have certainly changed and, upon reflection, you realise how troubling some of that era's content truly was. Will It Happen: The chances of this happening are slim-to-none. WWE stands to lose too much in the way of advertising and endorsements, such as their contract with action figure producers Mattel. Fans can clamour all they want for the return of smut and violence but it's just not going to happen. Perhaps a one night only return to the TV-14 rating would be a good gimmick and ratings-booster but a full time return? As Vince McMahon would say, you've got no chance in hell.
