10 Shocking WCW Results You Never Saw Coming

8. Diamond Dallas Page Defeats Randy Savage - Spring Stampede 1997

Diamond Dallas Page is a man who has been around wrestling for a long time. He started out as a manager in 1988, and was the Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine€™s driver at WrestleMania VI. He came to national attention as Scott Hall€™s manager, back when Hall was known as €œThe Diamond Studd€ when it seemed like WCW would be splitting the pair, DDP made the decision to start wrestling at the late age of thirty-five. His success in wrestling is one of the most unlikeliest stories in the industry. He floated around WCW for around years before winning his first championship in 1994, but he was never really considered a main-event talent, which is why his feud with Randy Savage surprised so many people and its one that DDP credits a lot of his success to. It€™s a story that DDP tells often, but it€™s always heartwarming. Over the course of DDP€™s feud with Savage, it always ended with either an nWo beatdown,, so when Randy Savage suggested taking the Diamond Cutter for the finish at a house show, it was a complete shock to DDP who naturally assumed he wouldn€™t be going over the former world champion. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lxxi_spring-stampede-1997-ddp-vs-randy-s_sport When Page won the match, the crowd erupted, and Savage whispered to him "Well I guess we know what we're doing for Spring Stampede!" They repeated the finish a week later at the pay-per-view to a similar reaction, and Page's path to the main event was assured.
