Many fans assumed Brock Lesnar's loss of the Universal Championship to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2018 would spell the end of his time in Raw's main event scene for at least a few months, except that it was a mere month later that he resurfaced at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

Reigns vs. Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat for the title was then added to Crown Jewel, only to be changed to Lesnar vs. Strowman in a straight-up singles match once Reigns was forced to relinquish the belt due to illness. Their original encounter at No Mercy 2017 was far from stellar, but fans hoped the rematch would be better.

Somehow, their second go-around was even more disappointing than the first.

Before the bell rang, Baron Corbin blindsided Strowman from behind, leading to what was basically an extended squash for Lesnar. Three minutes and five F5s later, The Beast was a two-time Universal champion.

It should be noted that Strowman turned back into a babyface only a few weeks before the show and was catching steam as a fan favorite again. Any momentum he had was completely vanquished with this defeat, and although a rematch was briefly scheduled to take place at Royal Rumble, plans changed and their rivalry was never resolved.
