10 Stacked WWE Cards Which Failed To Deliver
6. Crown Jewel (2018)
2018's Crown Jewel, emanating from King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, possessed the likes of Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman (them again!) fighting for the Universal Championship, a whole host of WWE World Cup matches including Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton, The Miz vs. Jeff Hardy, Dolph Ziggler vs. Kurt Angle, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe warring over the WWE title and god damn D-Generation X taking on The Brothers of Destruction!
Yes, it would've been nice if these clashes had been able to come to fruition without the involvement of astronomical Saudi pay cheques. However, in isolation we were still going to see some pretty cool match-ups go down.
Only we didn't, really.
Mysterio/Orton went five minutes and the majority of the other WWE World Cup matches were also too short to be remembered. Then Shane f*cking McMahon only went and won the whole thing and started referring to himself as 'The Best in the World'.
No matter, at least we still had a guaranteed hit in Lesnar/Strowman fighting for the vacant Universal title. That was until the latter got completely squashed in three minutes.
DX Vs 'Taker & Kane? Surely Shawn Michaels finally coming out retirement couldn't suck, right?
Oh it could and it did.
Triple H tore his pec, Michaels nearly died after 'Taker failed to catch his moonsault and Kane lost his wig. Magic.
WWE ignored calls to cancel this event off the back of the controversy surrounding the killing of Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi agents.
So, instead we were exposed to one of the worst stacked PPVs in the company's history. Hope it was worth it, Vince.
