10 Storylines WWE Has Already Messed Up In 2018
1. The SmackDown Top 10 List
Does anyone remember this? Back in February, Daniel Bryan announced the introduction of a kayfabe list of the top 10 SmackDown Live superstars, voted on by their colleagues in the locker room. The stated purpose of the list was to help guide Bryan and Shane McMahon in their decision making, furthering the idea of SmackDown as the 'land of opportunity' for worthy competitors. The first edition of the list was announced on the 6 February episode of SmackDown and it has barely impacted the show since then.
A week after the list was unveiled, Jinder Mahal used the relative positioning of Randy Orton and Bobby Roode on the list to talk his way into their rivalry over the United States Championship. Since then, nobody seems to have mentioned the list at all and there's no suggestion that there will ever be another edition of the SmackDown Top 10 List.
It's a shame that WWE has shown so little care and attention with this gimmick, because it has so much potential. The list could be used to elevate talent perceived to be popular backstage and provides for a plausible way to bring people up the card. It was an interesting concept that deserved better than being a Jinder Mahal bargaining chip.
