5. Gobbly Gooker

The Gobbledy Gooker has gone down in history as one of the most preposterous incidents in the history of professional wrestling. To recap for those who aren't aware; the Gobbledy Gooker was actually the most highly anticipated moment of an evening that saw the debut of The Undertaker. Needless to say, the Gooker didn't experience quite the same amount of success.

An egg had been ominously appearing on WWF TV for a while, with the promise that it would hatch at the Thanksgiving extravaganza. Well, hatch it did, and the reveal went down worse than every Hornswoggle reveal in history. Hector Guerrero was the man under the suit, and Hector Guerrero deserved better.

What is interesting is that in 1990 WWF actually filed an application to trademark 'Gobblygooker'. No Gobbledy in sight. Was that supposed to be the original name of this legendary turd?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
