It's interesting to note that The New Age Outlaws only became a tag team because the WWF had nothing else for them to do in 1997. Both had been undoubted failures individually, and The Outlaws existed as one last shot for Road Dogg and Billy Gunn to prove they deserved spots on the roster. Incredibly, they went on to become the biggest team of the Attitude Era. Winning numerous WWF Tag Team Titles and working well as part of main event stable D-Generation X, Road Dogg and Gunn had catchphrases, marketability and a cool factor that should have kept them on top for years. But the WWF saw money in Gunn, and in 1999 they flirted with the idea of turning Gunn into a main event singles star. He turned heel on Road Dogg in the Spring, killing off The New Age Outlaws, at least temporarily. At the infamous Over The Edge '99, Gunn defeated his former partner (in a match forgotten for obvious reasons), before then going on to win the King Of The Ring the following month, followed by a main event programme with The Rock. After his singles run had tanked, the company put he and Road Dogg back together in an attempt to rescue their popularity. Unfortunately, the damage had been done, and the magic was never truly there again. What other tag-teams did you feel split in shoddy fashion? Do you agree with the ones listed here?
