10 Things AEW Are Getting Absolutely Right At The Moment

6. The Next Generation, Bubbling Under The Surface

One criticism levied at AEW is the promotion's dependence on former WWE talent when it comes to carrying its championships. While the nature of the argument is inherently ridiculous (pro wrestling is a job, after all, these independent contractors should work with as many people as possible), a rudimentary look at the promotion's title history lends unfortunate weight to the argument.

The argument is bloated by that evidence, because anyone watching the show will understand that AEW has and continues to do a tremendous job of establishing new talent, at a pace that allows the wrestlers to develop organically. Nobody is being pushed down the audience's throat. The main event scene is full of established names but there are a whole host of guys waiting in the wings, ready to explode in a major way.

The relationship between MJF and Wardlow has only been touched upon from time to time, but the seeds have been planted for an eventual babyface time for the monstrous bodyguard. Jungle Boy is one big win away from another level, a charge that can also be levied at both Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara, unless the latter is cursed to feud with Matt Hardy forever. Orange Cassidy is a star, while Private Party and the various members of The Dark Order are bubbling away nicely.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
