10 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About TNA
3. They Planned To 'Kick WWE's Ass'
Hearing Bischoff speak about TNA on his podcast is an eye-opening experience. The former WCW chief clearly didn't think much of the promotion before getting there, and he knew it'd be a tough ask to make TNA bigger than it was. That's why he laughs at those who say the company wanted to compete with WWE.
Why did they reignite the 'Monday Night Wars' then? Well, according to Bischoff, it was less about beating Vince McMahon and more about seeing if TNA could nab a few new viewers - this 'War' was never supposed to be a long-term strategy that'd end with iMPACT! ousting Monday Night Raw from the flagship position.
TNA only fancied upping their own viewership. If they could steal a few hundred thousand from WWE, then they'd consider the Monday night switch a success. If not, then what was the harm? It's not like the promotion was exactly on fire as a household brand anyway. They had to try something here.
Bischoff's admission gives TNA's heavily-criticised decision some new perspective.
