10 Things That Must Happen At WrestleMania 33

It’s still confusing to fathom exactly why WWE thought an anti-authority match against Shane McMahon was the best place for AJ Styles, especially since he’s supposed to be one of the company’s top heels. But that’s what we’re stuck with, and although Shane can’t hold a candle to AJ in terms of legitimate wrestling technique, the pair will probably manage to pull off a pretty wild firework display of a match.

But AJ absolutely needs to win. It might seem like the heels are going to reign supreme at this year’s show, but there is literally no upside to Shane walking out the victor. He likely won’t wrestle much (if at all) for the rest of the year, and to give Smackdown’s commissioner bragging rights over one of the roster’s main event players would be a frankly gross example of WWE putting both an authority figure and an Attitude Era nostalgia act before full time workers.

Last year, WWE made the baffling decision to have Chris Jericho beat AJ in his first WrestleMania, a move that was essentially reset the next night when AJ became the new number one contender to the WWE Championship. It made no sense, and only served to halt AJ’s significant momentum up to that point. The same can’t happen again at WrestleMania 33.

This is perhaps the easiest call of the entire night – let’s just hope Vince makes the right one.
