10 Things That Must Happen At WWE Clash Of Champions 2017

1. AJ Styles Must Retain The WWE Championship

If there was one ‘must’ that absolutely has to happen, it involves the main event. AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship against former titleholder Jinder Mahal, and it is absolutely imperative that The Phenomenal One walks out of Boston with the title intact. The immediate future of SmackDown Live depends on it.

Jinder Mahal’s 170-day reign as WWE Champion was an unmitigated disaster. The Modern Day Maharaja did little to move the needle in any way, and his tenure on top damaged Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton. The brand itself went into a creative hole, too. In fact, the only beneficiaries of the whole debacle were the Singh Brothers.

If Mahal wins, then the entire complexion of the Royal Rumble changes. With Styles as champion, a host of names come forward as a potential winner. If Mahal has the title, that field narrows down to one man - John Cena. AJ Styles must win for the good of the Rumble.

But that is of secondary importance. Styles must win for the good of the show and for the title. Jinder can slip back into the middle of the card with his head held high, but having him beat the best wrestler in the company for the most prestigious title would be sabotage at best.

Fingers crossed WWE isn’t that that stupid.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
