10 Things That MUST Happen Before AEW Full Gear 2022
5. An Outside Talent Wins An AEW Championship
In the possession of Kenny Omega and Christian Cage, IMPACT Wrestling's World Title raised in prestige, thus creating a key moment in company history when it was lifted by Josh Alexander. He was the one to bring the championship back to the Anthem-helmed promotion.
This should now happen in the opposite direction, in that a non-AEW-contracted wrestler should lift an AEW championship.
Given that the working relationship between AEW and IMPACT is over for now (though not for good, crucially), they're removed from the conversation. A New Japan name seems the best bet, given they remain a popular promotion for American audiences. KENTA capturing the TNT TItle, for example, would be a wonderous moment, even more so if he were to then defend the strap in Japan, too.
With Ring Of Honor going on hiatus until 2022, their entire roster will subsequently become free agents over the next few months. If Mark and Jay Briscoe were to capture the World Tag Team Titles, it would, again, reinforce this notion that quite literally nothing is off-limits for AEW to capitalise on. They've already done this with the GCW titles to a sizeable reaction.
Tony Khan has been fairly lenient with letting his roster members appear elsewhere, but an AEW championship changing hands to an outside talent is the one thing missing from the Forbidden Door saga.
