1. What Happened Post-Match
So, did Joe and Butcher get feisty behind the scenes afterwards? Not even close. It was shockingly “docile”. Necro thanked Joe, and told VICE that he always had “a tremendous amount of respect for him as a wrestler”. That was never in question, but it’s incredible to think of these guys hammering one another with super-stiff and real shots, then shaking hands behind the curtain.
Unbelievably, Butcher had to work another match that same night, so he tried his best to recover, stop the bleeding and just prepare for that by finding a quiet place backstage to unwind. What a mad man. On ‘Dark Side’, both men thanked the other for a match they’ll never forget. Joe, who is known for being an eloquent soul, finished by saying: “It’s become a touch stone of inspiration in the great zeitgeist of wrestling”.

Post-match, Joe didn't quite realise the splash he and Necro had made. Eddie Kingston and none other than CM Punk had been on commentary with Dave Prazak for the bout, and they were all in awe at the cacophony of gratuitous violence and storytelling they'd just watched. Praise from peers and fans alike built over time, and the match has turned into a true cult classic.
VICE has even commissioned a run of 300 limited edition VHS tapes to commemorate this episode. That's fitting.
