10 Things We Learned From Inside The Ropes With Paul Heyman (Glasgow)
2. Heyman Wanted To Present Something Different At December To Dismember
There's no disputing the fact that the WWE-produced ECW December To Dismember 2006 pay-per-view is one of the worst ever put on by Vince McMahon's organisation. The remaining loyalty shared by fans of the original company was shattered by a terrible card, and a main event that just didn't give people what they craved.
Going in, Paul Heyman had something else in mind for the event. The headline Elimination Chamber bout featured Big Show, Test, Hardcore Holly, Bobby Lashley, Rob Van Dam and CM Punk. It was the latter trio that really interested Heyman, but things wouldn't go his way.
Overruled by other management, Heyman watched in horror as both Punk and Van Dam were eliminated first and third respectively. Lashley did go on to win the ECW Title that night, but Paul wanted to push towards a situation also involving Punk and RVD come WrestleMania 23.
Instead, those plans were completely shattered. Any one of those three men had to win the Elimination Chamber for Heyman's plan to work, preferably either CM Punk or Rob Van Dam, but WWE didn't like it.
