10 Things We Learned From Inside The Ropes With Paul Heyman (London)
1. A Conspiracy Theory
Somewhat inevitably, The Streak is brought up, with one fan asking what the 'creative process' leading up to that moment was like.
(It should be noted that Heyman said at several points throughout the evening that he'd never want to be a writer again, because it's too much booking by committee and he likes to think long-term, figuring out the end and then working his way back, something which isn't quite the norm these days)
Heyman asked the fan why he thought it was a creative process at all. According to Heyman, only Vince McMahon, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and himself really know what happened that night in New Orleans. And while he's not prepared to give us all of the details, he will put forth one new theory that hasn't been discussed yet...
The microphone master asked the fan and the audience what's to say that Brock Lesnar didn't decide he wanted to end The Streak himself and did it because, as we all know, Brock Lesnar does what Brock Lesnar wants to do? Would The Undertaker be able to stop him from manhandling him out there, from legitimately dumping him on his head over and over and hooking his leg? Would 'Taker be able to fend off The Beast if it developed into a shoot?
And just why was The Undertaker absent for a whole year when, despite needing to stay overnight in a hospital, he was discharged and fine to work soon after? Is it possible that Lesnar legitimately roughed him up and scared him away?
Of course, sitting there, you can't help but think 'this is nonsense'. But, since it's Brock Lesnar we're talking about, there's always the possibility. Tinfoil hats at the ready, folks...
And that was pretty much it for Paul Heyman's Inside the Ropes live in London Q&A. It was a fantastic event, with Heyman being an enthusiastic and engaging raconteur. The man really can tell a story (and completely own unwelcome hecklers). If you get the chance to see Paul Heyman and Inside the Ropes live, it is not a ticket to turn down!
