10 Things We Learned From Vince Russo On Stone Cold's Podcast
4. Vince Russo Hated The Ending Of SummerSlam 1998
This is something that Russo has apparently been wanting to speak to Stone Cold about for a long time. Vince starts off making it clear that he only ever wrote storylines and never the body of a match, which he left to agents and the wrestlers themselves.
However, this match is apparently the one time that he disagreed with the match so strongly he actually screamed in Vince McMahon's face about it and states that to this day he is amazed he wasn't fired for doing so.
Russo says he hated the idea of it being a face against face match. McMahon countered that this was the wishes of the wrestlers involved. Austin replies that this wasn't true and intriguingly suggests this may have been an occasion where the boss was playing puppetmaster.
Russo states that he hated the ending where Undertaker and Kane simply stand on the ramp doing nothing after Stone Cold screws the Deadman out of the win. He says it doesn't make sense for Undertaker to go out of his way to fight fair (after sending Kane away from ringside) and then have no emotional reaction to being cheated out of the title.
