10 Things We Learned From WWE 24: Finn Bálor
5. His Big Trip Home
"It’s very important to remember where you came from," is a phrase Finn repeats several times throughout 24. It is emphasised particularly strongly in the show’s second act, when Bálor decides to go back to his roots, and head home to his native Ireland.
Having left to tour the world in 2005, Finn revealed that outside the odd couple of days every other year, this was his first real trip home in "about 12 years." This is presented as the injury’s major silver lining, and emphasises Bálor’s relationship with his parents, siblings, and lifelong friends.
Finn is shown totally at ease as he socialises at his local pub, and climbs a nearby hill with an old mate. They show years-old footage of Bálor practising wrestling moves on his brothers while growing up, with his parents recounting a time when his school phoned them to express concern at their son’s chosen career path, while their own support never wavered.
These scenes were among the documentary’s most revealing, and unveiled the man behind the pageantry. It sounds like getting to spend the holiday season did his mentality the world of good, and helped re-energise him ahead of his grand return a few months later.
