This year’s SummerSlam saw Jey Uso take on his cousin Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Championship and Tribal Chief status. As a way to wrap up the Bloodline saga, it would have been perfect, taking Reigns' three year evolution back to the start, keeping it in the family, and crowning a new top guy with Jey Uso finally overcoming this monumental hurdle.

WWE didn’t go with that, obviously - the Bloodline is a ratings draw and a licence to print money, after all. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, though, we’re nearing the endgame for this lengthy, often brilliant piece of long term booking.

Before Triple H reluctantly puts down the pencil on this story, though, there are a few moments, matches, beats and surprises that just have to happen. From narrative loose ends to participants we’ve not yet seen and seeds to be planted for the future, WWE still has some goods to deliver before Roman finally cedes his spot on the island of relevancy.

Whether the end is in touching distance or the company actually intends to keep it going until next year’s WrestleMania, without these moments, the story won’t be finished.

10. Jimmy Gets The Spotlight

From a short-to-medium term perspective, Jimmy Uso’s heel turn on brother Jey is a strange one to process. The character beat makes sense - he resents playing second fiddle to his main event twin. From a match perspective, though, it’s hard to imagine anyone really wants to watch Jimmy vs Jey (especially with the future ramifications of positioning one above the other).

In the grander scheme, though, it’s absolutely right that Jimmy takes his turn in the spotlight. His character progression has been less flashy, boasting fewer memorable moments, than that of Jey; for lengthy stretches, he has been the less important brother.

And yet he’s been there for the whole of this saga, from Jey and Roman’s I Quit match through to headlining ‘Mania and leaving the stable. This feels like a much needed change of perspective, a chance to reframe this angle through the eyes of a secondary character.

It’s easier than usual to trust that WWE will do something more interesting with Jimmy than take the obvious “I’m jealous of your success” route; whatever path they take, though, the marginally older Uso is well worthy of his moment in the sun.
