10 Things We Never Thought We Would See In WWE In The 2010s

3. The Rock Wrestling John Cena

Prior to his return to WWE, The Rock hadn't wrestled a match since WrestleMania 20, but he wasn't given a final farewell of any sort. He was never expected to leave the company full-time, but when his contract expected at the end of 2004, WWE opted not to re-sign it and that was it. The career of one of the Attitude Era's most prominent Superstars closed out quietly and awkwardly. Although he distanced himself from the wrestling world while in Hollywood, fans knew deep down that he would be back in some capacity down the line, even if it took years. There were rumblings that he would serve as the guest host of Raw in 2010, but nothing ever came of them and the rumors died out. And then February 14, 2011 happened. The Rock was revealed to be the host of WrestleMania 27 and the entire arena went bonkers. Fans feared he and John Cena, who he talked trash about in his first promo back, would settle their differences by shaking hands at WrestleMania 27, but thankfully, something else came of their confrontation on the grand stage instead: a match at the WrestleMania 28. The phrase "dream match" gets tossed around quite a bit, but this was by definition a dream match for fans who longed to see them square off after they took shots at each other on mainstream outlets for years. As WWE themselves said, it was a match we never thought we would see, subsequently giving WrestleMania 28 the biggest buyrate of all-time. Now if only we could erase their WrestleMania 29 rematch from history...
