10 Things Wrestling Fans Fully Expected To Happen In 2020 (That Still Haven't)

1. Kenny Omega - AEW World Champion

There is still time for this one to happen, and if it doesn't happen in the next six weeks then it is almost certainly going to pass in the first quarter of 2021. Kenny Omega is on the cusp of an AEW World Championship match, and the Best Bout Machine seems like the perfect man to take the title from Jon Moxley. Mox has been a tremendous world champion, but it is time for Omega to become the company figurehead that many assumed he would be from the start.

If anything, the only reason this hasn't happened so far is because of Omega's ongoing storyline with his former tag team partner, Hangman Page. If the two hadn't carried the AEW Tag Team Championships for so long, the chances are that Omega and Page would have broken up sooner, allowing Kenny to go on and become the number one guy in the company. That would have robbed fans of the best slow-build in all of pro wrestling right now, however.

Omega and Page go one-on-one this coming weekend at AEW Full Gear, with a title shot awaiting the winner. The smart money is on Kenny, another chapter in a book that will define these early years of the promotion. Omega may yet end 2020 as AEW World Champion, but it remains a distinct possibility as opposed to a reality.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
