10 Things WWE Should Borrow From Other Sports
7. It's Fine To Tap Out
How come, in WWE, losing to a submission move is seen as the absolute height of humiliation? As though favouring giving up over getting your ankle broken makes you a big wimp.
The presentation of tap-outs in UFC is very different indeed. If you get caught in a Kimura lock then it's basically just the sensible thing to do unless you actually want to be rendered physically unable to compete for the next three or four months.
Obviously, there's no real comparison be drawn between these two sports in terms of what actually happens out on the canvas. One is real and is therefore governed by the real rules of human pain endurance, where in WWE you can get driven into the floor head-first and kick out at two.
But there's also no good reason that a big star like Roman Reigns or John Cena should be strictly prohibited from losing to a submission hold for fear of it affecting their long-term credibility. It's fine to tap out (unless you're Brock Lesnar, obviously - that would be ridiculous).
