10 Things WWE Should Borrow From Other Sports

6. An Off-Season

WWE wrestlers are forever pointing out, during out-of-character interviews, that WWE has no off-season. It's basically a way of batting off accusations that that, as exponents of a "fake" sport, they aren't really putting their bodies through the ringer like "real" athletes.

And yet this strength is also, in other ways, a weakness. Producing seven hours of live TV every week for a whole year is bound to have a detrimental affect on the quality of the product. The wrestlers don't have enough time to recover, and the writers don't have enough time to plan stuff out.

The obvious counter-argument to introducing an off-season is that it would leave a massive hole in the company's accounts - one that they'd likely have to fill by bumping up prices both for Network subscribers and live event attendees.

By the same token, perhaps fans would be willing to pay more if the product were of a higher quality. Barely anyone favours watching the Welsh third division over Manchester United versus Liverpool because it's cheaper.
