10 Things WWE Should Borrow From Other Sports
5. Adherence To The Rules
When it comes to internal logic, WWE is less like a professional sport than it is a sci-fi movie whose creator randomly makes up the rules as they go along (we're looking at you, Back To The Future writer Robert Zemeckis).
Wrestling rules are codified in theory, but in practice they are only enforced when it suits the storyline, the most comical example of which being that time The Great Khali eliminated himself from a battle royal to the delight of Michael Cole.
Then there are those moments wherein a wrestler pokes their opponent in the eye, or applies some sort of illegal hold - perhaps unfairly using the ropes for leverage - and is merely given a stern talking to by the referee instead of actually getting properly reprimanded.
Maybe the company's officials should get together and decide exactly what is permitted in their ring and what isn't. It'd save the commentators from having to awkwardly come up with half-assed explanations for why the match wasn't brought to an abrupt DQ finish.
