10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldust

7. He Was Fired As An Agent Due To Calling For Unsafe Spot In Tag Match

Late in 2010 after a successful WWE return in 2008, he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and there were concerns that he may have to retire from wrestling. While rehabbing from the injury, he became a backstage agent/producer. The role of an agent is to help wrestlers set up spots in their matches and come up with finishes while others work with talent on promos. A number of former wrestlers work as agents in WWE and since Dustin had so much experience it seemed like a perfect fit. He was fired in May 2012 for suggesting a dangerous spot during a Smackdown tag match between Titus O'Neil & Darren Young against the team of Ezekiel Jackson & Yoshi Tatsu. Sounds like a classic, right? Not exactly. Dustin asked O'Neil & Young to do a powerbomb/clothesline spot out of the turnbuckle for the finish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnJtk7ennKw After watching the move (go to 1:35 in the video) you can see that Tatsu nearly landed on his head without being able to protect himself too much. Tatsu was nearly injured severely during the move with the blame falling on Rhodes because he's the one that told them to do the spot. The wrestlers are in a spot where they can suggest certain things, but they also have to follow what they are told by the agents. Following his firing, he healed up and wrestled in the indies before WWE brought him back last fall for the storyline with his brother Cody. He did several interviews while he was away from WWE where he mentioned that it wasn't easy to be in the agent's role because he was so used to being a wrestler. He might go back to that kind of role if he retires soon, but there could be something else for him too.
