10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About John Cena

6. Burying The Nexus At SummerSlam 2010

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owxzRRhnGaU If you don't think Cena buried the Nexus at SummerSlam 2010, here's an excerpt from a recent Talk is Jericho podcast where Chris Jericho and Edge spoke about Cena's decisions in that match. Remember that Jericho and Edge were on Cena's team, so if anybody is going to know this stuff as truth it's them.
Chris Jericho: "It was Team WWE vs. Team Nexus, and the finish boiled down to and in there, but it was Cena against a couple of them. John wanted to do things a certain way and we told him 'you're wrong'. He did it anyways, and it sucked. And then after he came over to us and said 'I should have listened to you, but I wasn't seeing it that way.'" Edge: "I remember. I was like, fine I'm out of the match by that point." Chris Jericho: "He wanted to get DDT'd on the floor by Barrett, then kick out and beat them both. And you and I were like, that's the dumbest thing. That's just throwing it away for no reason." Edge: "They should have gone over because they were so hot." Chris Jericho: "We were fighting for Barrett to go over. And where's Wade Barrett now?"
The DDT on the floor spot happened. Cena barely sold the move because they did the finish about two minutes later. Then Cena quickly pinned Justin Gabriel (after a missed 450 splash by Gabriel) and then made Wade Barrett tap out. There was no reason for Cena's team to WWE. It hurt the angle in a major way. That Cena/Nexus angle continued for months afterward as Cena had to work for the Nexus, was fired at one point and despite being fired he was still on TV more than 90% of the roster that actually worked there. The angle could have been great, but that SummerSlam loss really hurt the group. By the way, how weird is it the likes of Michael Tarver and David Otunga have headlined a SummerSlam? It just doesn't seem right.
