10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Cody Rhodes

5. The Stardust Character

What exactly was Stardust supposed to be, anyway? There was never really any sort of explanation for it, Cody just started dressing and acting similar to his brother Goldust when the two began feuding. His interviews were rambling, using dozens of words to say very little, but at least Cody did his best with the character.

You have to give him that. He really did do his best with whatever he was given, whether it was teaming up with The Ascension or feuding with Neville and Arrow's Stephen Amell. He gave it his all and looked like he was having fun hamming it up whenever the crowd chanted 'Cody' at him.

But Stardust never had substance and was, obviously, a career setback for Rhodes. There was nowhere for the character to go and he could hardly challenge for the top titles. It was an opening match gimmick, thrown on a wrestler that deserved better.

According to Cody himself, Stardust was a Stephanie McMahon idea. Since returning to WWE, he has claimed that Steph just randomly suggested he start painting his face like his brother. While he was trying to find a way to get out of it, Vince McMahon barged in, said "YES!", and made it so.

With the 78-year-old now out of power and Stephanie out of the company, at least we're safe from Stardust ever coming back.
