10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Dusty Rhodes
7. The Shockmaster Was His Idea
When wrestling fans discuss the worst of Dusty Rhodes, the brain fart that is The Shockmaster must always be mentioned. Looking beyond the obvious failings of the character's debut, when Fred Ottman stumbled through a temporary wall and tripped, his helmet toppling off his head, the idea had little going for it right out of the gate. Let's be honest, The Shockmaster had a painted Stormtrooper helmet on his head, and looked like a last-minute Halloween costume rather than a premier wrestling bad-ass that fans were expected to believe could destroy the likes of Sid Vicious and Harlem Heat. Even so, at least Dusty was thinking of things that could entertain the fans, nobody said the guy was perfect! To his credit, Rhodes had been able to look back at The Shockmaster concept and laugh over the years, quite clearly realising that it was an abortion of an idea which should have never come to fruition. Maybe things would have been different had Ottman not fallen over, but the character didn't seem to have a lot going for it even if the crudely designed headpiece had stayed on.
