10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Hell In A Cell

7. CM Punk vs Ryback And Paul Heyman

Actually, they did do it again, the very next year. By this point, the pair had switched alignments. Punk was now a babyface again, having been betrayed by the dastardly Paul Heyman, while Ryback was essentially playing Biff Tannen from 'Back To The Future' - a knucklehead bully gimmick with very little substance. The match centred around the stipulation that, if Punk won, he'd get his hands on Heyman. Paul spent the entirety of the match on top of the cage, a ploy to keep himself safe from Punk, and surely one of the stupidest decisions in the history of wrestling. The match itself was similar to their encounter the year before; the face/heel roles were reversed, and we were treated to slightly more kendo stick involvement, but the general feel was depressingly samey. Eventually, Punk got the better of a momentum-sapping finishing sequence and nailed the G2S for the win. He then climbed up to the top of the cage and hit Heyman with several kendo stick shots, before dishing out another GTS and posing in triumph. End scene. It was an anti-climactic ending by all accounts, but the stipulation was never going to live up to expectations from the moment it was introduced. We might have dreamed of Punk launching Heyman, Foley-esque, off the side of the cage to the announce table before - but it was never realistically going to happen. The whole thing smacked of rushed booking with an inevitably disappointing payoff.
