6. Major Neck Surgery
Professional wrestling takes a huge toll on the body. You can't take all of those bumps every night and not end up without some wear and tear or injuries. It's just the law of averages Eventually, it's going to catch up to you. Rhyno knows all about the pain that wrestling can bring, having had to sit on the sidelines for over a year from October 2001 - February 2003. He had major cervical fusion surgery to repair two herniated discs in his neck. It was a serious operation, the same one that Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Lita and Steve Austin had all had before him. It was undoubtedly a huge blow to Rhyno but it was in many ways a productive time. Rhyno began taking acting classes and also had a baby daughter during the time out. When he returned he didn't really alter his smash-mouth high-impact style much, which was a surprise to many who thought he would tone himself down. WWE more than likely won't be quick to remind NXT viewers that Rhyno broke his neck during his first run with the company and that he is wrestling on borrowed time.
